On a recent trip to the Seattle-area I had the chance to visit the Big Four Ice Caves -in the Mt Baker Snoqualmie National Forest. My daughter in law, Heidi, calls it one of her favorite places — and it quickly became one of mine
The trail is well maintained with many areas covered with rocks and river crossings over parts of the Stillaguamish River with beautiful views of the forest, streams leading up to the wall of ice coming down the face of the mountaintop forming into ice caves at the base. You can’t go into the caves although many people ventured close to them. The avalanche concern is real – in 2011 an 11-year old was killed there. You can find more info on the trail here at the Washington Trail Association Page.
